Overview of SPLASH
(Mega Management and Cultural Festival)
The Department of Business Management, Badruka College PG Centre conducts a Management meet called SPLASH every year, which is exclusively organized for the students of MBA. This has been a tradition since the inception of the institute in 1987.
The objective of the Meet is to create a platform, which has many challenging events, designed in different faculties of Management like Finance, Marketing, HR etc which allow the students of various other colleges to compete and win prizes.
The MBA students of Badruka show up their managerial talent in organizing this event. Funds are pooled up from various Organizations in the form of sponsorships to organize the event. In the past some of the eminent sponsors have been Coco-Cola, India Bulls, Club Mahindra, Bank of India, Polaris, Philips, Bartronics India Ltd, Pizza Hut, Karvy, State Bank of India, Dream Valley Resorts, Music World etc. This activity helps the students gain a practical approach in understanding the basics of Sales and Marketing and dynamics of how businesses operate. This year some of our potential sponsors are Club Mahindra, HDFC Life, World Space, Radio Mirchi, State Bank of India, Panasonic etc.
In the second phase, the student design various events which are categorized as Formal and informal events. Competitive rounds are designed and students are tested in various areas of management on their knowledge, skill and abilities. To judge these events eminent corporate personalities, consultants and Academicians are invited, who not only give their feedback of the events but also speak to the students on areas relevant for their development. A brief of the events is enclosed at the end to give you a better understanding of how they are designed and what takes place in the two-day meet.
Students pursuing their MBA in the twin city colleges are the target audience. Invitations are sent to more than 60 colleges under various Universities in the State. Last year over 1500 students attended the event over two days. The popularity of the event has attracted some of the undergraduate students also to participate in the event.
The event is widely covered in the press.
This year we are organizing the 20th annual Management meet SPLASH on the 21st and 22nd March 2007 at our college Campus at Kachiguda, Hyderabad. We expect to make the event this year more exciting and interesting by the presence of dignitaries like you.
Brief of the Events conducted in SPLASH
Formal Events:
1. Young Manager- This is the flagship event of the meet, which tests students on all the attributes required for being the best managers. Their knowledge, skills, aptitude, EQ and IQ are tested through various management tools. Last year the participants were asked to present a Business plan on any of their creative idea related to products or service. These Plans were sent to Bankers and consultants who were on our Judges Panel, they shortlisted the best Business plans and these students were asked to make a PPT presentation in front of the audience followed by a proper interview from a panel of judges who tested the technical aspects of the business plan.
2. Business Quiz- Quiz on various management and business related issues.
3. Finance, Marketing, HR events- These events will test the fundamental concepts in each of the streams through a written test of objective questions of about 40-70 question in a time span of 30 minutes. Then the shortlisted teams are given case studies, business game or simulation activities developed by our students with the support of the faculty members and the guidance of the judges for these events. Sometimes these events are developed based on the sponsor’s requirements for promoting their products/ services.
4. Stock market simulation- This is a simulation of the stock market scenario and how trading is done. Using software, which is developed by our students a case is developed with latest facts and figures, which will create a simulated case of trade on stock and the student is tested on the skills of understanding the operations of the market and how they play the game of stocks.
Informal Events:
5) Antakshari- It is based on the model of Zee TV’s ‘Antakshari’ of Hindi film songs.
6) Dance Competition- A team event where a theme is given. Eg. Folk. The students will perform as team to show their skills in Dancing and the event is judged by experts in the field.
7) Skits- Theme based on any burning issue of socially relevant topics are given for students to express their creativity in the form of skits.
8) Splash Race- The game is a treasure hunt in the city. Teams are given a Map of the route to be covered in the form of a puzzle having clues of different shops, outlets, and other important spots in the route. The students have to solve the puzzle to get the idea of the route they are supposed to take. Participants need to cover all these touch points and collect any article from that point and reach the destination. Sometimes the sponsor can give their company’s outlet as the touch point. All the participants will carry the logo of the sponsor and will cover 30 to 40 km all over the city. This way the sponsor can promote their products and services
Hence having solved the puzzle sheet they would have covered the entire route given to them. A programme based on the model of Amazing Race in AXN channel.
Apart from this there are many more events like Mock Press, Double edged Sword (Talking for and against the topic), Who dares wins, and some cultural activities to keep the students entertained.
